We're proud to share one of our most architecturally considered projects to date: a fully custom five-bedroom home designed and built for our clients in Trentham, Victoria.
Set on a generous rural block, this home brings together a refined material palette, strong architectural form, and premium finishes throughout. It's a stunning example of what is possible with prefab modular design when you choose to build with Anchor Homes.
The Modular Design Brief
The project is set 90 minutes northwest of Melbourne, in Trentham — a picturesque rural town in Victoria's Central Highlands.
The landscape is green, cool, and distinctly regional in character. It's a setting that demanded a home with a strong design identity and materials that could hold their own in it.
Our clients had a brief, and envisioned a large, well-designed family home that genuinely belonged on this stunning site. Five bedrooms, generous living spaces, and a level of finish that matched the quality of the architecture.
The design was developed entirely from scratch, incorporating our Cubehaus façade, and tailored around their specific lifestyle and site conditions.
Sleek, Bold, Modern Exterior
The exterior of The Trentham 5-Bedroom Project is defined by our Cubehaus façade.
On this site, framed by tall deciduous trees and expansive lawn, the Cubehaus form sits with authority in the landscape — architectural and precise.
The exterior material palette pairs two complementary cladding types. Weathertex Weathergroove in 'Intrigue' (a deep, near-charcoal tone) forms the primary colour of the home. It's a choice that reads as grounded and sophisticated in a heavily treed setting, receding into the landscape rather than competing with it.
Spotted gum feature cladding is introduced at key moments as a warm textural counterpoint, most notably at the entry. The visual contrast between the two materials gives the facade depth and a layered quality.
Black aluminium double-glazed windows are used consistently throughout, reinforcing the tonal coherence of the exterior and contributing to the overall thermal performance of the building envelope.
Post-handover, our clients completed the landscaping themselves and the results are utterly exceptional and complement the home beautifully.
A modern open pergola structure runs along the northern facade, casting a linear rhythm across the gravel garden below. It's a strong architectural element that bridges the built form and the landscape, extending the geometry of the home outward and providing a sense of enclosure to the pathway without closing it off.
Interior Design
The interior is as resolved as the exterior — modern, considered, and cohesive throughout.
At the front entry, a large pivot door flanked by full-height sidelight windows on both sides creates a strong architectural arrival sequence. It's a detail that establishes the tone of the home from the moment you approach it.
The kitchen is built around a beautiful Caesarstone island benchtop with a waterfall edge. White cabinetry with a white subway tile splashback keeps the kitchen light and restrained, while the stone benchtop brings a material richness that anchors the room.
The bathrooms are finished to an equally high standard. Floor-to-ceiling tiling in both the main bathroom and ensuite creates a more immersive, cohesive feel and emphasises the volume of each space. The main bathroom features a freestanding bathtub positioned to face a garden-facing window. This was a considered placement that makes the room feel more like a private retreat.
Trentham's winters are genuinely cold, regularly dropping well below 10 degrees. The home responds to this directly: a wood heater anchors the living room, contributing as much to the atmosphere of the space as to its warmth, while underfloor heating in both wet areas ensures the bathrooms remain a pleasure to use year-round.
The main living areas open generously to the north, with sliding doors providing a direct connection to the deck and garden beyond.
Custom Home Design Floorplan & Upgrades
Trentham 5-bedroom Custom Floorplan
Designed from the ground up, this bespoke home was shaped entirely around our client's vision and the character of the site.
The layout of this project spans 210.3m² across three modules in total. The open-plan kitchen, dining and living spaces occupy the central zone of the home, with direct access to the deck and garden. The master bedroom, walk-in robe and ensuite are positioned in the western module, creating clear separation and privacy from the rest of the home. The remaining four bedrooms, main bathroom, laundry and second powder room are contained in the eastern module.
The three-module configuration is well-suited to a five-bedroom home design at this scale. It distributes the brief across the footprint efficiently, creates natural zoning between living and sleeping areas, and keeps circulation straightforward without sacrificing spatial generosity.
Key upgrades incorporated into the home were:
• Carport, integrated into the eastern end of the home
• Merbau timber decking off the main living area
• Stone kitchen benchtop with waterfall edge
• Freestanding bathtub in the main bathroom
• Floor-to-ceiling tiling in the bathroom and ensuite
• Underfloor heating in the bathroom and ensuite
• Large pivot front door with full-height sidelight windows
• Premium fixtures and fittings selections throughout
